Oh! Forgot to mention that the Zebra print bag sold!!
I just spent the past six hours trying to figure out how to retouch some photos so that I can update my Etsy page and this blog.  Oh my goodness, I don't have the patience I once had with these programs. Anyway, thanks to Picasa and determination I got it done.  So now I can do what I originally sat down at the computer to do; post this weeks' sale items.

First I want to mention an article that I read, a while back, on little things you can do to recycle and make a few extra bucks.  I chuckled when I saw toilet paper rolls on the list. Just to see how it would go, I actually started saving toilet paper rolls and when I got to a dozen, I listed it on Etsy.  To my surprise I received more hits on the toilet paper roll listing than I did on everything else.  Mmm . . . maybe it's out of curiosity and not need?? Who knows.  Anyway, I did receive an email from one of my favorite craft/sewing sites titled: 27 Uses for Toilet Paper Rolls.  So if your looking for an easy project to do with the kids, maybe you want to try some of those out.  And if you don't want to wait on an collection of toilet paper rolls, check out my listing on Etsy.

New listings will be posted tomorrow.  I really would like to see the two rings below sold, maybe a BOGO - half price sale will do it.

I will do the same for the coats.  Spring is nearly here and no one will be thinking about coats for another six or seven months.

So please check back here soon or simply visit: www.lilacsandlavender.etsy.com to see whats' up for sale!

Thank you for visiting!

Where is Spring!

Well here in Saratoga Springs, we're getting another 2 - 4" of snow.  That's on top of the foot we already have from last week.  Great for all you ski folk, but I'm ready to dig in the dirt.  I ordered some plants from hirts and they came in this morning.  It was so exciting to get them planted and photographed.

Night Blooming JasmineApostle

Rose of Jericho Resurrection Fern - This one had to be placed in a shallow bowl of water and in 24 hours
it will come back to life.  We shall see. . .

And, Lynn.  One of the two cats I rescued from the shelter last week.  The other one, Rose, is so hard to catch for a photo.  I just had to adopt them, not only because they are so darn cute, but because of the names (Rose & Lynn) hence, Rosalind. : )  She was just chilling on one of the cushion covers that I'm about to recover.  Isn't she one of the cutest?

So, on with the rest of my day.  I've got great projects going on; the Kindle Challenge hosted by Crissy Heron of Indie Biz Chicks .  She's giving us the challenge of writing a book for Kindle in a month.

Then there's the Sew Sexy Sew-Along  A sewing challenge for anyone who is up for it.

Thanks for your time and do visit again.

Sew Sexy Sew-Along

A flickr group to post photos of the patterns we're using and the garments we're creating the Sew Sexy Sew-Along 2014. We were originally inspired by a wonderful post written at Beau Baby:mybeaubaby.blogspot.com/2013/02/show-little-skin-whither-...

This sew-along is being run by Lisette of What Would Nancy Drew Wear?, Clio of Clio & Phineas and Wanett of Sown Brooklyn.

Finished!

So yes, I finished the cushion covers.  Those buggers were tough to get onto the cushion.  One was a tad too tight and the other some loosness - but workable.  I found out that he wanted them for a Adirondack chair that he made!  I thought that awesome.  Too bad I don't have a picture of his work.

You can see the one on top (too tight), bottom (loose)

Yet, not too bad.

Next Project -

Ok - Us Saratoga locals know about the items that our neighbors are always tossing on the curb.  Free this, that and the other.  Well here is what I picked up. . . well I actually had a friend of mine pick it up.

Its an excellent chair from IKEA.  My daughter-in-law, who has an excellent eye for things, was "take it Rozz, its so nice!!"  So, here it is.  After getting it into the house, scrubbing and spraying, it sat in the kitchen for...well... too long.

Doing the cushion covers inspired me to get going with this chair.  I plan to cover it with "mud cloth" to match the curtains I made.

So stay tuned. . . .

Hello All,
I've decided to share new project.
A gentleman customer (I rarely ever get a male client) wants to have a set of chair cushions re-covered. One is the seat, the other for the back.
The fabric is a nice light-weight, durable twill and will have a velcro closure.  I like the nautical color scheme and it goes well with the type of chair.  One of those Adirondack chairs.

So here's the before pictures.  I will be doing these over the weekend and I hope to have the finished product by Monday.

Since these are very thick cushions, I suggested five yards.  He brought less than that. : /  I hope I dont have to call him for more fabric.  Guess I'll just see how it goes. . .

Hello to All You Ladies who are participating in the Mad Men Sewing Challenge.  I just found out that Katie Couric is having a Mad Men event on her show on April 22nd.  If any of us are lucky maybe we can get tickets.  Mmmm.....yeah right. : )  I did put in a request anyway.  Wouldn't it be great if we can go as a group and show our finished garments?  Anyway, we can at least tune in on April 22 and enjoy the show from at home.

From Shorts to Skirt in 90 Minutes

A friend of mine is leaving for Florida and wanted to transform a pair of her shorts into a skirt. I thought she was actually leaving on Friday, but she's leaving tomorrow. I could not have her go without her skirt, so I quickly stitched up the center front and back seams. Place her chosen mudcloth pieces, as she chose and stitched. At first I thought would use a zigzag stitch around the edge, then decided that a nice straight stitch would work better. Not too bad for a 90 minute job, huh?.

I'll have to have her send me a pic when she has it on.  I hung it up in front of me and it hangs pretty well, with a slight drape at the center front.  It was fast and fun.  I plan to do some more skirts before the Summer hits.  BUT with putting much more time in it.

I FOUND MY PATTERN!!!! YES!!!! DID NOT THING IT WOULD BE SO SOON.  TIME FOR FABRIC !

Old Japanese Art

I saw an article in Better Homes & Garden last month and thought I'd try my hand at this old japanese art called Kokedama.  It was so much fun.
I'm sure I will be making some more to add to my homemade jungle. : )

Going Crazy Over Mad Men

I just spent almost two hours trying to decide which dress to make for the Mad Men Sewing Challenge - they are all so nice.  Since, I kept leaning towards Peggy (I absolutely love her style), I chose to go with this gorgeous green one:

I'm not too crazy about the color but I love the style!
Now to find a pattern.  Probably wont find one exactly like it, not to mention
in my size, so I'm prepared to do a lot of altering, but of course that's all part of the challenge, right.

Things are finally starting to pick up.  I'm fortunate enough to have the opportunity, once again, to get the window display down at Uncommon Grounds AND for two whole months!!!! How awesome is that!?  Plus I've decided to take on the MAD MEN Challenge.  But, unfortunately my sewing classes that are held through the continuing education department at the high school, did not make it this semester.  Registrations were down.  That's the first time in...actually, I think that's the first time ever!  And I've been teaching there for years.  But, I'm still looking for space to do outside classes.  Every place I've contacted is booked.  So, the search continues.

In the meantime, I have plenty to keep me busy.  I hope to be posting later this week a picture of my choice for the Mad Men Challenge and maybe even a sneak peak of one of the products for the display.

So stay tuned. . .

OK, so I'm in on the Mad Men Challenge!  Have not picked my dress yet, but I will very soon.  It's been a long long time since I've sewn anything for myself and since my weight gain - it will be a challenge on top of another challenge : ).  But, it will be lots of fun!  Thanks Julia and Becci for the encouragement.

LEARN TO SEW

If you've already taken any of my sewing classes
and are interested in taking your skill to another level, lets
get together for a intermediate level class.  I'm looking to do
a class sometime between February and April 2013.  Keeping in mind
that we all should be recovered from the holidays  by that time. : )
Let me know if you are interested in attending and what particulary you
would like to make.  We can do a class on sewing clothing, curtains,
table settings, alterations, or just picking out the right fabrics,
 ...the possibilities are almost endless.
You can email me at
with your interest and
contact information.
